The new Summit Galleria Cebu is an understatedly elegant city hotel, located near the commercial port and is a 45-minute drive to the airport. The 220-room, business and leisure hotel sits on the podium of the Robinsons Galleria mall, connected by an access from the retail area to the hotel’s restaurant. Architectural firm, Asya Designs, cladded the aluminium façade in gold so it could exude a prestigious appearance. Summit Galleria Cebu is the flagship property of Summit Hotels & Resorts, a brand whose hotels embodies the character of its place and provides caring yet efficient hospitality. In creating the ambiance, architect and company project director Bernard Mariano worked with interior design firm, Design HQ (Hirayama + Quesada), to make visitors feel relaxed in a sophisticated setting. In weaving the design story, the team considered the Summit brand and the preferences of the hotel’s target market of MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition) and Asian tourists. These guests not only want modern amenities but also a feel of the province. The theme is contemporary characterized by neutral colors with doses of bold hues and patterns, polished finishes, clean lines, dark accent walls and sculptural lighting. A variety of luxurious marble surfaces sourced internationally reflects the cosmopolitan city. The designers captured the essence of Cebu and used it to enhance the guest experience in the hotel. Instead of merely displaying local arts and crafts and infusing indigenous materials in the surface finishes, Summit Galleria’s designs includes nuggets of Cebu—the pintados or tattooed natives discovered by the Spaniards upon landing in the Visayas in the 16th century; its mango exports and Mango Fiesta; the colorful Sinulog Festival; the beaches, the street life and the booming Queen City of the South. The hotel makes a showcase for Cebu’s world-class furniture industry. This established the direction for the look—from furnishing to rooms to surface treatments. “We wanted to make the guests feel that the spaces were an extension of Cebu,” said Mariano. Arriving from the busy street, the guests are put at ease by the hotel’s soothing yet sophisticated palette of gray with accents of white and black. Grey projects formality and elegance without the stiffness. A metal lighting fixture of a bundle of puso, a traditional triangular case for rice, wrapped in coconut leaf strips, dominates the foyer. Unlike other rectangular check-in counters in other hotels, Summit Galleria lobby makes an impact with a slim asymmetric marble counter, designed by August Santiago, a visual artist hailing from Malabon City. Guests can refresh themselves at the all-day dining outlet, Providore, run by Raintree Restaurants Philippines; relax at the lobby lounge or browse online at the WiFi/Internet station. The walls are lined with local artists. The pillarless ballroom, which has a capacity up to 600 guests can be divided into three smaller function rooms. It boasts of a capiz wall, a nod to Cebu’s world-famous shell craft industry. Mariano added that the door handles were also wrapped in capiz to showcase the Cebuano handwork. The wave patterns on the flooring echo the seas along the province’s beaches. The hotel provides expectations of MICE guests such as a pre-function area and break-out rooms. While other hotel guest rooms are made for sleeping and freshening up, Summit Galleria rooms invite the guests to cocoon. The grey color scheme lends a feeling of safety and security. It is softened with white to add freshness and lightness. In keeping with the contemporary feel, the rooms are furnished with streamlined furniture. Pendant lights free up the space on the side tables so that guests can put all their gadgets. The hotel has 220 tastefully done up rooms. All of its rooms, from Super King and Super Twin to Super Family and Suites, can accommodate families as they enjoy a relaxing morning, a lazy afternoon or a quiet night inside it furnished with chiropractic designed beds and pillows and covered in layers of linens of high thread count for maximum comfort. It also offers safety and security to its guests as the rooms in the hotel are protected by a lock system and can only be accessed using a RFID Proximity Card. Each of the rooms at Summit Galleria Hotel have spacious bathrooms perfect for soaking away in comfort after a long day of roaming the streets of Cebu. It has hot and cold super showers with premium bath toiletries. The rooms also offer other notable features such as individually controlled air conditioning units, an ample desk space for working or dining, a 42-inch Flat Screen TV with HDMI and USD ports and premium cable channels. The family rooms and suites make guests feel at home with their unique and hip designs, yet they inject the soul of Cebu. For travellers who prefer modern simplicity, the Mango Suite is done in elegant gray, uplifted with mango yellow accents on the furnishing and the wall. The Sinulog Suites echo the festive atmosphere with colourful geometric patterns derived from the banderitas or flaglets and colourful ethnic fabric as accents. The Suite Room, on the other hand, is made intimate by earth colors of the furnishing and modern woodcrafts for decor. It is injected with bold geometric patterns suggestive of the pintados. On the third floor, guests can unwind at the indoor pool area and bar or savor the city view from the glass wall. If they want to meet with their co-workers or colleagues and make their holiday a productive one, Summit Galleria Cebu has 2 break-out rooms perfect for any corporate or social gatherings. The rooms have stylish interiors making it conducive for brainstorming. Moreover, the hotel also has a brand new state-of-the-art, 950 square meters, Grand Ballroom. The grandeur and elegance of the new Grand Ballroom will enhance Summit Galleria Cebu’s position as the premier choice for prestigious conferences and events. With a seating capacity of 750 for banquets and 1000 for cocktail receptions, the guests will have the night of their lives as they enjoy their fabulous celebrations. Mariano explained that showing the spirit of old and new Cebu through the design lends a sense of place for visitors. Coupled with the warmth of the staff, hotel lures them to come back.
