Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), through its Robinsons “RLove” corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, actively participated in the International Coastal Clean-up in Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat and Eco-Tourism Area (LLPCHEA). Volunteers from different RLC Business Units were guided by Department of Environment and Natural Resources- River Basin Control Office in the collection, sorting and measuring of the 9 identified categories of waste, covering 100 meters of LPPCHEA- Freedom and Long Island coastal area. “Our employees’ participation in the International Coastal Clean-up is not only the individual’s expression and contribution in preserving the environment it is also the fulfillment of Robinsons Land Corporation as stewards that promotes sustainable programs, “ says Mike Torres, RLC CSR senior manager. One volunteer, Vanessa Sembrero expressed her concern on how the public can be so irresponsible in their waste management. She believes that there should be more public awareness on the ill effects bad waste disposal practices. Data collected on the types and quantity of the ocean debris during the ICC is to be analyzed, interpreted and reported by DENR-NCR which will be consolidated with the reports from all the clean-up zones nationwide. In a recent report, Ocean Conservancy claims that China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are spewing out as much as 60 percent of the plastic waste that enters the world’s seas. Established by Ocean Conservancy, International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) is the largest volunteer effort for ocean’s health. Held annually every third Saturday of September, people around the world gather on beaches, coasts, rivers, waterways and underwater dives to remove trash and record information on the debris collected. Results aids in better waste management policies, plans, product packaging designs and in stirring environmental consciousness among people and companies RLC’s Environment Sustainable Program include a Renewable Energy program by installing off-grid solar panels in its malls nationwide, Energy Conservation program in all RLC projects and a Wastewater recovery project leading to zero waste water discharge.
