The launce of Giant Lantern Caravan at Robinsons Magnolia in 2017 lit up the mall with its festive colors.

Nothing quite puts you in the mood for the Christmas season better than gazing at a beautiful display of Christmas lights. If you want to surround yourself with Christmas parols, come to Robinsons Malls as you witness stunning Christmas lanterns dance to the tune of your favorite Christmas songs at the Giant Lantern Caravan.
This year, the first leg of the Giant Lantern Caravan will be at Robinsons Galleria where mall-goers get front-row seats to see the Grand Launch of the event with various types of lanterns on display at the mall’s activity area. Special performances from Teatro Rizalia Dance Troupe and RTU Himig Rizalia Chorale will have the audience feel the beginning of the holiday season. And to formally open the event, Robinsons Land Executives together with officials of the Giant Lantern Festival Committee will be on hand to offer a few remarks to the audience.
The Giant Lantern Caravan is an exhibit of mini-replicas of the Giant Parols from the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, the Christmas Capital of the Philippines and Home to the Giant Lanterns. Aside from the exhibit, it also has a lantern bazaar where mall-goers can buy Pampanga’s well-known Christmas lanterns at special discounted prices. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the lantern makers of San Fernando, Pampanga.
After the kick off event in Robinsons Galleria, the Caravan, will then make Robinsons Galleria Cebu its home from October 27 to 28. By November, the Giant Lantern Festival will be at Robinsons Magnolia from November 3 to 4 and at Robinsons Place Antipolo from November 10 to 11.
One of the highlights of the festival is the annual Giant Lantern Competition where participating barangays exhibit their biggest, brightest and most colorful Christmas Parols. The competition will be held at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga on December 15. The celebration continues with nightly exhibitions of the giant parols at the mall starting on December 16 to 21, December 25 to 30 and January 1 to 2.
The Giant Lantern Festival, locally called Ligligan Parul, started way back in the 1930s. Each of the giant lanterns were made from bamboo frames, steel, colored plastics or fiberglass. Lantern makers also make use of several colored light bulbs and hundreds of wires to make it more colorful and vibrant. As if their creativity isn’t enough, the lanterns they make every year are getting more and more extravagant and vibrant which makes spectators come back for more.
In 2013, the City of San Fernando Pampanga Giant Lantern Festival Foundation, Inc. was established to assist in the organization of the festival, and initiate projects and programs that will promote the lantern industry and Kapampangan culture.
