The celebration of the traditional Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) is seen to flash a beacon of hope and to continuously bring the warmth and joys of Christmas amidst the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. It serves to be a festival for the eyes for its spectacular display of synchronized lights, Christmas music and local melody and these lanterns are transformed like gigantic glowing stars at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga which has been the venue for 13 years, endlessly lighting up the dark and cold skies of the city.

Christmas time in San Fernando, Pampanga is celebrated with the famous Giant Lantern Festival and for decades, it has been the most much-awaited competition of brightly-colored parols or Christmas lanterns  but this year, it will purely be a friendly showcase of Filipino talent and craftsmanship.

As the festival lights up the city, thousands of foreign and local visitors flock there to witness interplay of colors and kaleidoscopic patterns but because of the strict health protocols brought about by the pandemic, the festival is going fully digital to ensure public health. It can be watched from the safety and comfort of your homes through various social media platforms.

And for those who truly want to experience and witness the beauty of the giant lanterns, pre-register by simply visiting www.giantlanterns.com or head over to the 2nd floor near Robinsons Movieworld of Robinsons Starmills Pampanga. Feast your eyes as they give you two (2) shows at 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM until December 20 and a 5:30 PM show from December 21 until January 3 (except Dec. 24 and 31). The Giant Lantern Festival 2020 Nightly Displays is exclusive for drive-in only, no walk-in guests are allowed and strict wearing of face mask and full face shield are required.

There are seven (7) participating barangays who built colorful, intricate lanterns namely Bulaon, Calulut, Sto. Niño, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, San Juan, and Telabastagan, proving that the pandemic is definitely not a hindrance to a tradition that gives hope and joy to people.
